LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Queens Centers for Progress upon
the occasion of hosting its 65th Anniversary Gala, and paying tribute to
this year's honorees on June 16, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Queens Centers for Progress upon the occasion of hosting its 65th
Anniversary Gala, and paying tribute to this year's honorees, on Tues-
day, June 16, 2015, at Terrace on the Park, Flushing, New York; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Queens Centers for Progress will recognize
Steve Elkin, New York Metro Pro Manager, The Home Depot; Michael Ambro-
sino, Vice President, Ambrosino Construction Corporation; and Joseph L.
Pipitone, President, Tiles Unlimited, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, United Cerebral Palsy of Queens, now known as Queens Centers
for Progress (QCP), was founded in 1950, by a group of parents who need-
ed services for their children with cerebral palsy and other develop-
mental disabilities; and
WHEREAS, QCP is dedicated to providing children and adults who have
developmental disabilities the opportunities to make choices which will
maximize their skill development, independence, and integration into
community life; and
WHEREAS, At the core of all the agency's services is the deeply held
belief in the development of the individual; moreover, QCP believes that
all people can learn and that all people, in spite of any developmental
disability, can make meaningful choices about their lives; and
WHEREAS, At QCP, children receive intensive training in cognitive,
motor, socialization and communication skills, as well as traditional
school subjects; and
WHEREAS, The day and residential programs at QCP, along with voca-
tional training and supported employment programs, help provide training
to assist adults with developmental disabilities function more independ-
ently in their community; and
WHEREAS, Today, QCP has grown to become a major provider of services
for people with developmental disabilities in both Queens County and the
New York Metropolitan area; the agency currently provides a comprehen-
sive array of services to more than 1,200 people; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those organiza-
tions which enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and
have shown long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have
earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Queens Centers for Progress upon the occasion of hosting its
65th Anniversary Gala, and to pay tribute to this year's honorees on
June 16, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Queens Centers for Progress, and the aforementioned hono-
rees.
