LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael Afshar upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award
by the Suffolk Association for Continuing and Community Education on
June 16, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Michael Afshar upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by the Suffolk Association for
Continuing and Community Education, to be celebrated at its Annual
Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 16, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Suffolk Association for Continuing and Community Educa-
tion (SACCE) was founded to promote lifelong learning opportunities for
adults within Suffolk County and beyond the county's borders; its
purpose is to advance adult education as a vital factor in adult growth,
development and fulfillment; and
WHEREAS, Through the sharing of resources and ideas with colleagues in
the Nassau Association, and under the umbrella of the New York State
Association, SACCE strives to increase the recognition of and respect
for continuing community education and its professionals; in addition,
it is the goal of the organization to exercise leadership in the advoca-
cy of adult community and continuing education at the local, state and
national levels; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated instructor who has been with Western Suffolk
BOCES since 2011, Michael Afshar works as an Adult Instructor for the
evening Career and Technical Education program as a Cisco instructor;
and
WHEREAS, Michael Afshar's illustrious career began as a database
programmer for the Colorado Department of Health; during this time, he
excelled in his field, worked his way up, and landed a job with a New
York company as a Senior Analyst/Developer; and
WHEREAS, As a result of his hard work and steadfast dedication, Micha-
el Afshar was asked to be a consultant, guest instructor and advisory
board member for Westwood College School of Design in California; he
went on to earn various technical certifications, allowing him to become
the well-rounded instructor he is today; and
WHEREAS, Michael Afshar is currently a Network Engineer for Cisco,
which is based in Northport, New York, and provides all technical
assistance throughout the state of California; and
WHEREAS, A true leader in his field, Michael Afshar continues to bring
quality education to his students; his forethought accounts for contin-
ued growth and enhancement of Western Suffolk BOCES curriculums, thus
benefiting the students he instructs; he truly takes great pride in
helping each of his students achieve their goals; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Michael Afshar provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of people in
their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their future
years; and
WHEREAS, Michael Afshar has clearly had an enduring impact on the
students of at Western Suffolk BOCES and the community at large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for many impressive years of
dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
education by providing their skills and talents to our schools; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael Afshar upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by the Suffolk Association
for Continuing and Community Education on June 16, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Afshar.
