LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Calvary
Baptist Church of Akron, New York, May 15-17, 2015

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
75th Anniversary of Calvary Baptist Church of Akron, New York, cele-
brated May 15-17, 2015; this auspicious occasion was celebrated with a
series of events including, a musical concert, homecoming picnic, and a
Sunday morning worship service recounting the history and heritage of
the congregation; and
WHEREAS, Established in January of 1940, Calvary Baptist Church was
founded by a group of believers and their pastor who wished to form
their own religious community dedicated to fellowship, service, and
spiritual growth; and
WHEREAS, For approximately 60 years, the members of Calvary Baptist
Church worshipped in a building located on John Street in the center of
the Village of Akron, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, this esteemed religious congregation completed
construction of new church facilities on six acres of property on Lewis
Road; seven years later, the complex was expanded to include a family
life/gym addition; and
WHEREAS, Calvary Baptist Church regularly offers special events and
outreach programs to the community such as VBS, Veterans Day/Memorial
Day services, and the annual December Living Nativity presentations in
Russell Park; and
WHEREAS, During its illustrious history, Calvary Baptist Church has
been led by many inspirational pastors, including founding Pastor,
Reverend Frederick Robinson, Reverend David Dyke, Reverend Alan Swaim,
Reverend Charles Lunsford, Reverend Glenn Seaver, Reverend LaVerne Rowl-
ing, Reverend Richard Kester, Reverend Albert Damon, Reverend David
Ervine, and Reverend Ron Houseman; and
WHEREAS, Today, under the able leadership of incoming Pastor, Reverend
Frank Snyder, along with his wife Karen, Calvary Baptist Church stands
on the threshold of tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the
coming decades while retaining that spiritual resolve which character-
izes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Calvary Baptist Church of Akron, New
York, May 15-17, 2015, fully confident that this commemoration reflects
the belief in those values which enhance the dignity and purpose of
life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to incoming Reverend Frank Snyder, Calvary Baptist Church.
