LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Asian American Business Develop-
ment Center upon the occasion of hosting its annual Asian Americans in
Business Awards event, and paying tribute to this year's honorees

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that individuals and
organizations that work to improve the quality of life of the communi-
ties they serve merit the highest commendation of this Legislative Body
and the people of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Asian American Business Development Center upon the occasion of
hosting its annual Asian Americans in Business Awards event, and to pay
tribute to this year's honorees; this auspicious event will be held
Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Macy Herald Square, New York City; and
WHEREAS, Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC) was estab-
lished in New York City in 1994 to promote greater recognition of Asian
American businesses' contributions to the general economy; and
WHEREAS, AABDC encourages Asian American businesses to be more active-
ly involved in issues and policies that directly affect them at the
federal, state and city levels; and
WHEREAS, AABDC assists business entities to compete in the mainstream
marketplace and expand business opportunities; furthermore, AABDC intro-
duces business opportunities between China and New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 2001, AABDC annually presents the Outstanding 50 Asian
Americans in Business Award to Asian American corporate executives and
entrepreneurs across a wide spectrum of industries on their contrib-
utions to the U.S. economy; and
WHEREAS, Together with the African American Business Association and
the Hispanic Business Association in New York, the New Majority Alliance
was formed to grow businesses and expand opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Under the able direction of President John Wang, AABDC
creates equal opportunities for Asian American owned businesses in local
government projects, and advocates for positive and fair policy changes
in the small business community; and
WHEREAS, AABDC develops New York - China Business Opportunities; it
was the first business organization to lead a delegation of New York
State legislators and businesses to China in 2003; since then, the trade
mission of "Invest in New York" has become an ongoing annual event to
visit the major cities of China and the key economic leaders; and
WHEREAS, AABDC opened its first overseas affiliate of "New York in
China Center" (NYICC) in Beijing, to assist New York State based busi-
nesses to enter the China market and Chinese businesses to invest in New
York State; NYICC has offices in New York, Beijing, Hang Zhou, Dalian,
Nanjing and Chengdu; and
WHEREAS, AABDC partners with Columbia Business School's Eugene Lang
Entrepreneurship Center to expand their mentoring programs for their MBA
students and alumni entrepreneurs; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Asian American Business Development Center upon the occasion
of hosting its annual Asian Americans in Business Awards event, and to
pay tribute to this year's honorees; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Wang, President, Asian American Business Development
Center.
