LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Charles Bridge, Jr., upon the occasion
of his induction into the Basketball Coaches Association of New York
Hall of Fame on March 13, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional coaching accomplishments and generous volun-
tary leadership captivated the hearts and minds of their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Charles Bridge, Jr. upon the occasion of his induction into the Basket-
ball Coaches Association of New York Hall of Fame, at a ceremony to be
held on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at the Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens
Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, Charles Bridge, Jr. served as the Sackets Harbor Boys Varsity
Basketball Coach from 1979 until 2006, compiling an impressive record of
376-194 for a winning average of .659, and capturing four sectional
championships; and
WHEREAS, Charles Bridge, Jr. also served as Frontier League Class D
Chairman for 17 years, was on the Section III Basketball Committee for
17 years, started a youth basketball program for the Town of Sackets
Harbor in 1992, began the Sackets Harbor Fast Break Shooting Camp in
2000, served as Assistant Coach at Jefferson Community College from
2006-2008, was involved for several years in Coaches vs. Cancer
fundraisers, and founded the Sackets Harbor Booster Club; and
WHEREAS, Due to his stellar career, Charles Bridge, Jr. was the recip-
ient of numerous awards and accolades, some of which include being named
Frontier League Coach of the Year nine times, Section III Coach of the
Year in 2006, Frontier League Meritorious Service and Contributions
Award in 2006, and Section III Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007; further-
more, he was honored by having the Sackets Harbor Basketball Court named
the "Charles Bridge, Jr. Court" in 2007; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his coaching accomplishments and contrib-
utions, Charles Bridge, Jr. was a teacher in the Sackets Harbor communi-
ty for 30 years, and also provided color commentary for several locally
broadcast basketball games, and served as guest speaker at many local
basketball camps; and
WHEREAS, Charles Bridge, Jr. has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of Sackets Harbor, New York, as well as on the community-at-large,
and accordingly merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Charles Bridge, Jr. upon the occasion of his induction into the
Basketball Coaches Association of New York Hall of Fame on March 13,
2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Charles Bridge, Jr.
