LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim April 2016 as Limb Differences Awareness Month in the State of
New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize official
months that are set aside to increase awareness of serious issues that
affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to memori-
alize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 2016 as Limb Differ-
ences Awareness Month in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Limbtastic! is a not-for-profit organization which seeks to
raise awareness of limb differences; the dedicated staff of this vital
group provides support, guidance and assistance to those born with a
limb difference and their families; and
WHEREAS, Although Limbtastic! is based in New York, there are people
who live with a limb difference throughout the globe; many of these
individuals have differences with their upper limbs which are either
rare, or undiagnosed, and simply labeled as a difference; and
WHEREAS, The basic definition of an upper limb difference is a condi-
tion, diagnosed or not, which affects the hands, fingers, arms, or
shoulders; and
WHEREAS, Unfortunately, there is a lack of knowledge or understanding
for these conditions, and often times these people are treated as if
they are broken, unable, or different; they are far from being disabled,
though they are differently-abled; and
WHEREAS, On April 16, 2016, Limbtastic! is hosting the very first
Nationally recognized Limb Differences Awareness Walkathon at Babylon
Town Hall Park, Lindenhurst, New York; during this incredible event, a
deejay will play music, and cotton candy, balloon animals, and face
painting will be available for children; and
WHEREAS, In addition, April 18, 2016, has been designated as Wear
Orange Day in celebration and understanding of Limb Differences; and
WHEREAS, The incredible staff at Limbtastic! hopes to achieve national
recognition for this rare condition, and let these children know that
they have the support, love and understanding of their fellow citizens
across the Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body and Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
proclaim April 2016 as Limb Differences Awareness Month in the State of
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
