LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending P. Earle Gleason upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of distinguished service to the Yates
County Veterans' Service Agency

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend P.
Earle Gleason upon the occasion of his retirement as Director of the
Yates County Veterans' Service Agency, celebrated on January 31, 2015,
at the John Costello American Legion Post 355, Yates County, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Our nation's veterans hold a dutifully esteemed and respected
place in the long histories of our communities, our states and the
United States of America, where their past and present contributions,
patriotism and service are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the
strong fabric of community life; and
WHEREAS, Born in Guyanoga, New York, on January 21, 1947, P. Earle
Gleason was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 and served with
the 5/46th 198 L.I.B. Americal Division; and
WHEREAS, This valiant soldier served in the Vietnam War from
1968-1969, and was awarded a CIB (Combat Infantryman Badge) and a Bronze
star; he was discharged with the esteemed rank of Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong Yates County resident, P. Earle Gleason began his
career with Yates County in The Veterans' Service Agency on July 5,
1994, and was appointed to the position of Director, effective September
19th of that same year; and
WHEREAS, As Yates County Veterans' Service Agency Officer/Director for
more than two decades, P. Earle Gleason has made an enduring impact as a
tireless advocate on behalf of the lives of many of Yates County's more
than 2,000 veterans, as well as to the community-at-large through his
dedicated work and his commitment to service; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, P. Earle Gleason has been a guardian for two
Rochester Honor Flights; in retirement, he plans to volunteer with this
valuable organization in addition to volunteering his time at the Viet-
nam Memorial in Washington D.C.; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, P. Earle Gleason was honored by 150,000 veteran
members of the New York American Legion as the Service Officer of the
Year; and
WHEREAS, P. Earle Gleason has embodied the deepest and truest ideals
of citizenship through his sacrifices for our nation as a veteran, his
long-standing commitment to fellow veterans, and his leadership within
other organizations such as the American Legion, as well as his devotion
to his community, including serving as Milo Town Councilman for 24
years; and
WHEREAS, P. Earle Gleason has lived by an exemplary code of service
and enriched the lives of those around him through his lifelong sense of
duty, his proud citizenship, and a deep and abiding commitment to the
enduring, rewarding values of work and family; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, P. Earle Gleason was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems, earn-
ing the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend P. Earle Gleason upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the Yates County Veterans' Service

Agency, and to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to P. Earle Gleason.
