LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chuck Idol upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2016 Environmental Advocacy Award by
Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in the communities of New York State are reflective of
the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and individuals who
devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Chuck Idol upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2016
Environmental Advocacy Award by Residents for a More Beautiful Port
Washington to be celebrated at its Annual Gala Dinner on Friday, April
8, 2016, at Leonard's of Great Neck in Great Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 1968, Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington
has been dedicated to creating a strong, unified and sustainable commu-
nity in Port Washington, New York, and its surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, Each year, at its Annual Gala, Residents for a More Beautiful
Port Washington proudly honors those individuals who have worked to
support its mission of helping to make Port Washington an outstanding
community in which to live and work; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated community advocate, Chuck Idol is being recog-
nized with the 2016 Environmental Advocacy Award for his work in helping
to protect the health of Port Washington residents; and
WHEREAS, In January of 2014, PSEGLI installed 80 foot poles laden with
a toxic chemical named Pentachlorophenol (Penta) with no warning given
to area residents; and
WHEREAS, Concerned about the health and safety of his fellow citizens,
Chuck Idol has worked for the past year with the Residents' Peninsula
Aquifer Committee to address this vital issue; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Chuck Idol has engaged in substantial
amounts of research, and compared his findings with other communities to
learn more about the best possible solutions; he has also built a data-
base of decision makers and influencers at every level of government
from local water districts to the head of the EPA; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, this tireless advocate has created an on-line peti-
tion, drafted op-ed pieces, started a letter writing campaign, and used
social media and a blog to connect with residents all over the country
concerned about Penta; and
WHEREAS, While this important issue is still ongoing, Residents for a
More Beautiful Port Washington is grateful for Chuck Idol's passionate
commitment and valiant advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Chuck Idol has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Chuck Idol has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chuck Idol upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Environmental Advocacy Award by Residents for a More Beautiful Port
Washington; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chuck Idol.
