LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. Mark Josefski upon the occasion of
being named 2016 Tulip Ball Honoree by the HealthAlliance Foundation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Josefski has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Dr. Mark
Josefski upon the occasion of his designation as 2016 Tulip Ball Honoree
by the HealthAlliance Foundation, to be celebrated at its 27th Annual
Tulip Ball held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Lazy Swan Golf &
Country Club Village in Saugerties, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year the HealthAlliance Foundation of Kingston, New York
proudly honors those individuals who have contributed to the well-being
and vitality of their community at its Annual Tulip Ball; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Josefski has been named the 2016 Tulip Ball Honoree
in recognition of his outstanding work as the attending physician at
both the HealthAlliance Hospital and the Institute for Family Health,
and for his dedication to serving his community; and
WHEREAS, A proud Kingston native, Mark Josefski earned his bachelor's
degree from Colgate University, and traveled to Zaire with the Peace
Corps; during his two years of volunteer service, he taught biology,
chemistry, and physics and worked with missionary doctors; and
WHEREAS, After returning to the United States, Mark Josefski conducted
epidemiology research at the Harvard School of Public Health, and
enrolled in the Stony Brook University School of Medicine; he completed
his training at the University of Wisconsin Family Medicine Residency
Program and returned to Kingston in 1989 to work at the Institute for
Family Health; and
WHEREAS, In just a few years, Dr. Mark Josefski was promoted to Direc-
tor of Student Training at the Institute for Family Health, and later
rose to the esteemed position of Program Director of the Mid-Hudson
Family Medicine Residency Program, a position he held until 2004, and
again from 2007-2013; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the Institute, this remarkable
physician has further displayed his commitment to the medical community
through his service as past President of the New York State Academy of
Family Physicians, and as a former member of the Foundation's Board of
Directors; he currently serves as Vice President of Medical Staff on the
HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley's Board; and
WHEREAS, For the past two decades, Dr. Mark Josefski has been a
committed educator, serving as Assistant Clinical Professor of Family
Medicine and Community Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt.
Sinai, and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family
Medicine at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic
Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Josefski has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; he was an original physician with the 0+
Positive Festival, and serves as a sideline physician for the Kingston
Consolidated Schools system, as well as a Kingston Library board member
and tenor with the local singing group Ars Choralis; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and honors, Dr. Mark Josef-
ski is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and was
presented with the 1988 Mead Johnson Award for Graduate Education in

Family Practice; he also received both the 1995 Student Teacher Award
and the 2002 Resident Teaching Award from the Mid-Hudson Family Health
Institute; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Karen Levine, and
their daughter, Alix, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Mark Josefski has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Mark Josefski upon the occasion of his designation as 2016
Tulip Ball Honoree by the HealthAlliance Foundation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Mark Josefski.
