LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Underground Railroad History Project
of the Capital Region, Inc. upon the occasion of its designation as the
recipient of the Community Partnership Award by St. Anne Institute on
April 15, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge and
celebrate organizations and events of historic significance which add
vitality, sensitivity, understanding and inspiration to the diversity
and value of the people of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Under-
ground Railroad History Project of the Capital Region, Inc. upon the
occasion of its designation as the recipient of the Community Partner-
ship Award by St. Anne Institute, to be celebrated at its Gala on
Friday, April 15, 2016, at Normanside Country Club, Delmar, New York;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is bestowed upon the Underground Rail-
road History Project of the Capital Region, Inc. for its invaluable work
with the St. Anne Institute students and for sponsoring a Community
Enhancement Project of the Underground Railroad History Project of the
Capital Region (URHPCR), Inc. at The Abram Johnson Garden; and
WHEREAS, The URHPCR, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed to gath-
er and preserve historical evidence of the Underground Railroad Movement
in the United States and to educate the public about the history of the
Movement in the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated volunteers from the URHPCR, Inc. have helped
students from St. Anne Institute start seeds and grow plants in its
horticulture/greenhouse classroom; the fully developed plants will be
provided to Underground Railroad sites located throughout Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for the Underground Railroad History
Project of the Capital Region, Inc., and for all of the individuals who
have worked to bring proper attention to a time and places which merit
recognition in the grand panorama of the history of our State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Underground Railroad History Project of the Capital Region,
Inc. upon the occasion of its designation as the recipient of the
Community Partnership Award by St. Anne Institute on April 15, 2016; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Underground Railroad History Project of the Capital
Region, Inc.
