LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese of
Green Goddess Foods, LLC, upon the occasion of being named Small Busi-
ness Persons of the Year Award for New York State by the United States
Small Business Administration
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those small business owners who substantially contribute
to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tammy Ann
Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese of Green Goddess Foods, LLC, upon the occa-
sion of being named Small Business Persons of the Year Award for New
York State by the United States Small Business Administration to be
celebrated at an awards ceremony held May 1-2, 2016, in Washington, DC;
and
WHEREAS, The Small Business Person of the Year Award recognizes entre-
preneurs from across the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto
Rico, Guam and the United States Virgin Islands for their outstanding
business achievements; and
WHEREAS, Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese met in 2001 while cook-
ing at a local cafe and discovered they shared a dream to start their
own natural food service business; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, the two were inspired to launch Green Goddess Foods,
LLC, a vegetarian prepared-food business, with a goal of increasing
access to healthy local foods and building wellness in their community;
and
WHEREAS, Over the years, these esteemed small businesswomen have built
a loyal following, and have grown Green Goddess from a 100-square-foot
booth at the Lake Placid Farmer's Market to a dynamic company which is
highly active in a variety of areas; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese purchased a
health food store in Lake Placid, New York, which they renamed the Green
Goddess Natural Market with assistance from the North Country Small
Business Development Center, the SBA and the Adirondack Economic Devel-
opment Corporation; and
WHEREAS, After facing stiff competition from a newly opened regional
grocery chain store, Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese carefully
readjusted their business model, and regained market share by increasing
their selection of freshly made organic cafe items, local products, and
bulk foods; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese relocated the
Green Goddess Natural Market, and transformed their store into a larger
community meeting place; they also opened The Scape Cafe for breakfast
and lunch, and added an extensive deli and catering menu, as well as a
fresh juice and smoothie station; and
WHEREAS, After achieving much success with The Scape Cafe, Tammy Ann
Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese looked for further opportunities; they opened
the Nordic Cafe at the Olympic Sport Complex Mount Van Hoevenburg Cross-
Country Ski Center in 2014, and added a Waffle Hut the following year;
and
WHEREAS, Today, Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese continue to
provide their community with the finest organic and minimally processed
foods and an extensive produce section featuring over 50 varieties of
organic fruits and vegetables; and
WHEREAS, In addition, as part of their commitment to facilitating
access to regional farm products for North Country residents and visi-
tors, Green Goddess sources up to 80 percent of its produce from area
farmers during the local growing season; and
WHEREAS, Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese have been called upon to
contribute their time and talents to countless civic and charitable
endeavors and have always given of themselves unstintingly; they regu-
larly donate wholesome prepared foods to local schools, the Adirondack
Farm to School Initiative, Lake Placid Center for the Arts,
Reason2Smile, and The Wild Center; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese
have stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese
have displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those business
leaders who enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and
have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have
earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese of Green Goddess Foods, LLC,
upon the occasion of being named Small Business Persons of the Year
Award for New York State by the United States Small Business Adminis-
tration; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tammy Ann Loewy and Wynde Kate Reese, Owners, Green Goddess
Foods, LLC.
