LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Judith Culver Chapman upon the
occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Judith Culver Chapman was born on the family farm in Armenia,
New York, on April 13, 1916; she will celebrate her 100th Birthday at a
party with her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the last Century, Judith Culver Chapman has lived
through the Great Depression, two World Wars, and a multitude of techno-
logical advancements; and
WHEREAS, On January 1, 1942, Judith Culver married Stuart Chapman and
together, they lived on 15 Knollwood Road in the Village of Rhinebeck
for 58 years; and
WHEREAS, For numerous years, Judith Culver Chapman served as a teacher
in the Red Hook School District and other area districts, a position
from which she retired in 1981; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to the community in which she lives, Judith Culver
Chapman is an active and well-respected member of the Rhinebeck Dutch
Reformed Church and the Shepherd Knitting Group; in addition, she volun-
teers her time and energy at The Northern Dutchess Hospital Exchange
Shop and the Third Lutheran Braille workshops; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman enjoys spending time with her family,
knitting and crocheting, and playing Rummikub; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her devoted children, Richard
and Pamela; and her nine treasured grandchildren, Becky, John, Jennifer,
Kimbrie, James, Christopher, Thomas, Steven and Christopher; as well as
numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her life and rejoice in her accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Judith Culver Chapman upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Judith Culver Chapman.
