LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Rose Oshinsky upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens possess a wealth of knowledge and experience
from which we all learn, and their contributions to society and the
State of New York are celebrated; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding centenarian came from humble beginnings to
create a great life for herself and her family, is known for putting a
smile on the face of everyone with whom she comes in contact, and
continues to inspire those around her; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 15, 1916, in Grodno, Poland, Rose Oshinsky and
her family emigrated to America in 1923, settling in the Lower East Side
of New York City; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman worked her first job while attending
school at night, learned to read and write English, and performed
concerts around New York City with her school's glee club; and
WHEREAS, This beloved mother gave birth to her first son, Sol, in
1933, and her second son, Donald, in 1940; and
WHEREAS, This upstanding neighbor moved to Far Rockaway, Queens, in
1964, where she has lived ever since, and continues to be an integral
part of the community as a beloved member of the Rockaway Park Senior
Center; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age, lived through wars,
experienced technological advances and witnessed the progress of this
country during the last century, while themselves contributing to the
growth and excellence of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Rose Oshinsky upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rose Oshinsky.
