LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim May 11, 2016, as Receptionists Day in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize official
days that are set aside to increase awareness of such individuals who
substantially contribute to the success and progress of society; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to memorial-
ize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 11, 2016, as Receptionists
Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance of
National Receptionists Day; and
WHEREAS, According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more
than one million receptionists in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Each year, National Receptionists Day is celebrated on the
second Wednesday in May to give recognition to receptionists and the
valuable contributions they make to the companies they work for; and
WHEREAS, National Receptionists Day, an unofficial national holiday,
was created in 1991, by the Director of the National Receptionists Asso-
ciation in an effort to gain awareness and appreciation for the role of
receptionists in a business setting, and to provide community and
support for receptionists nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Receptionists are responsible for providing a good first
impression to all customers, in person as well as on the telephone;
their customer service skills play a vital role in each company's image;
and
WHEREAS, It is imperative that there be greater awareness of the
importance of receptionists, and more must be done to increase activity
at the local, state and national levels; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 11, 2016, as Recep-
tionists Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
