LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Eugene D. Nesin posthumously upon the
occasion of his induction into the Monticello Central School District
Hall of Distinction on November 2, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service were an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Eugene D. Nesin posthumously upon the occasion of his induction into the
Monticello Central School District Hall of Distinction, to be celebrated
at its 2nd Annual Induction Ceremony on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at the
Arnold Packer Hughes Auditorium, Monticello High School, Monticello, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Hall of Distinction was established in 2012 by the Board
of Education to honor highly successful graduates, former students and
former employees who have achieved distinction, outstanding accomplish-
ment, or have made a significant contribution within their school, fami-
ly, career, community and/or personal life; and
WHEREAS, A Monticello School District Board of Education Member from
1976 to 2009, Eugene D. Nesin believed all children had the right to the
best education possible, while pursuing their interests in athletics,
arts or academics; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast advocate for the Monticello School District and
the community at large, Eugene Nesin regarded all children equal and
deserving of a quality education regardless of their income, religion or
race; and
WHEREAS, Eugene D. Nesin devoted both his public and private life to
young people; working tirelessly to address their educational needs,
this exemplary man contributed hundreds of hours on behalf of the local
youth; and
WHEREAS, Faithfully serving the entire school community with integri-
ty, The Eugene D. Nesin Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Music was
established in his name to support young artists; to date, 12 full scho-
larships have been awarded to Monticello High School graduating seniors,
as well as several hundred partial scholarships to students in kinder-
garten through grade 11 for summer programs and music lessons; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the theater on St. John Street in Monticello was
dedicated as the Eugene D. Nesin Theatre for the Performing Arts in
2011; and
WHEREAS, Eugene D. Nesin was a well-respected businessman, and served
the Monticello Central School District with distinction for more than
three decades; and
WHEREAS, An avid volunteer, Eugene D. Nesin gave of his time and ener-
gies to such community service organizations as Monticello Kiwanis and
the National Ski Patrol at Holiday Mountain; he also served as a past
Councilman for the Town of Thompson; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Eugene D. Nesin displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhanced the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Eugene D. Nesin posthumously upon the occasion of his induction
into the Monticello Central School District Hall of Distinction on
November 2, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Eugene D. Nesin.
