LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 164th Anniversary of the Camden
Continental Fife & Drum Corps and recognizing the integral role it has
played in the lives of many individuals and families

WHEREAS, It is the sense of the citizens of the State of New York to
recognize and pay tribute to those institutions within our midst that
diligently strive to uphold and promote excellence, while providing
meaningful services to their members and the community at-large; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 164th Anniversary of the Camden Continental Fife & Drum Corps
and recognize the integral role it has played in the lives of many indi-
viduals and families; and
WHEREAS, Organized by Alanson White in 1850, in Taberg, New York, the
Camden Continental Fife & Drum Corps was moved to Camden, New York in
1942; and
WHEREAS, The Camden Continental Fife & Drum Corps was originally
formed to play at political rallies and patriotic celebrations; and
WHEREAS, In 1845, Alanson White played for militia company training in
Taberg, and went to Washington, D.C. to play with the Camden Continental
Fife & Drum Corps at the time of President Grant's Inauguration; and
WHEREAS, In 1937, "Continental" uniforms were added to the Camden
Continental Fife & Drum Corps, but were replaced in 1952, and again in
1979, and black vests were added in 1981; today, the Corps uniforms are
manufactured locally; and
WHEREAS, A non-profit group dedicated to the preservation of a part of
our American heritage, the Camden Continental Fife & Drum Corps is made
up of volunteers from the Central New York area; several current members
have been in the Corps for more than 20 years; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 164th Anniversary of the Camden Continental Fife & Drum
Corps and recognize the integral role it has played in the lives of many
individuals and families; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Camden Continental Fife & Drum Corps.
