LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph Horner upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the
Orange-Ulster BOCES on April 28, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its young
citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joseph Horner
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar
Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES which was celebrated at its
Third Annual Awards Breakfast, on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Kuhl's
Highland House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes outstanding high school
students for their accomplishments and/or performances in the arts,
including fine arts, theater, and music; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Horner has distinguished himself as a young man of
superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, A Senior at Minisink Valley High School in Slate Hill, New
York, Joseph Horner will be attending Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York
this fall; he intends to major in Music Education with a vocal emphasis
and then will continue his education in graduate school; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Horner is currently the section leader of the Bari-
tones in the Minisink Valley Chamber Choir and Men's Ensemble; he is the
Drum Major of the Minisink Valley Warrior Marching Band, plays tuba in
the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, and plays the piano in the Jazz
Ensemble; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he is section leader of the Low Brass in
Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble; he is also in his second year of study
in AP Music Theory; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his high school career, Joseph Horner has partic-
ipated in All-County Chorus and Band, Area All State Chorus and many
NYSSMA solos; he has been in four musicals for the Minisink Valley High
School Drama Club, and student-directed two fall plays; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Horner has also starred in four musicals at the Hudson
Valley Conservatory of Fine Arts; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Joseph Horner
has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Horner may stand with pride in his achievements, expe-
riencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his accomplish-
ments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he continues
his education; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Horner represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of his
future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph Horner upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES, and to
wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph Horner.
