LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Wanya Denzel Bruce upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2015 Youth of the Year Award by the
Boys & Girls Club of Rochester

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Wanya Denzel Bruce upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2015 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester,
to be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the Year
Award, recognizes exceptional young men and women for their outstanding
contributions to the community, as well as their perseverance in over-
coming personal challenges and obstacles; these honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls
Clubs; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester for 12 years,
Wanya Denzel Bruce is often called upon to speak to fellow Club members,
funding sources and visitors who frequent the Boys & Girls Club; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Wanya Denzel Bruce has worked at the Club as a
junior counselor teaching younger kids how to have fun as a Club member,
and has volunteered more than 200 hours of community service to the
after-school tutoring program at the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester; and
WHEREAS, Wanya Denzel Bruce has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding scholar, Wanya Denzel Bruce earned the Princi-
pal's Award for outstanding achievement, strong leadership, and citizen-
ship at Fairport High School; he is also the recipient of the Black
Scholar's Award, which is endowed to African-American youth who hold a
3.0 GPA or higher in the City of Rochester; and
WHEREAS, Wanya Denzel Bruce's unparalleled athleticism led him to
create his own personal brand for Boys & Girls Clubs and communities
across the nation called Physically Fit Lifestyles; he is very committed
to clean eating and exercise, and believes those are the core elements
to living a long and well-sustained life; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
Boys & Girls Club member now stands honorably, with just pride in his
accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, under-
standing and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by his
teachers, coaches and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Wanya Denzel Bruce upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2015 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of
Rochester; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Wanya Denzel Bruce.
