LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dolores M. Hofman upon the occa-
sion of being crowned Ms. New York Senior America on April 3, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals who have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State with their character and outstanding achievements;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Dolores M. Hofman upon the occasion of being crowned Ms. New York
Senior America at the Ms. New York Senior America contest held in the
John Adams Theater at Hofstra University on Sunday, April 3, 2016;
Dolores' reign will end on April 23, 2017; and
WHEREAS, A native New Yorker, Dolores Hofman was born in the Bronx and
moved to Levittown, Long Island, with her family at a young age; an
active child with many interests and talents, she was a member of the
chorus and theater group, and was a participant of many school athletic
programs; and
WHEREAS, Raised in a home with values of honesty and integrity,
Dolores Hofman's father, in particular, encouraged her independent
nature and fostered her love and respect for all living creatures; for
17 years, Dolores Hofman served as President of Animal Lifeline, a non-
profit organization set up to help stray domestic animals; and
WHEREAS, As an stanch advocate for animal welfare, Dolores Hofman
traveled the world supporting and raising awareness for the plights of
stray animals; for her unwavering commitment to the protection of
animals, WOMAN'S WORLD MAGAZINE featured her in an article entitled
"Angels of a Special Kind"; and
WHEREAS, Dolores Hofman started her aviation career with Pan American
World Airways, Inc., becoming the first female Cargo Service Agent at
Kennedy Airport with a license to operate a forklift; NEWSDAY featured
her on their "People Page" as a "Versatile Woman" and pictured her
sitting atop her forklift; and
WHEREAS, Rising through the ranks of the Cargo, Material and Personnel
Departments, Dolores Hofman was promoted to positions with increased
responsibility; in 1989, she left her job as Corporate Recruiter at Pan
Am to become Director of Personnel for Evergreen International Airlines
at Kennedy Airport; and
WHEREAS, Three years later, Dolores Hofman assumed her present title
as Program Manager of the Queens Air Services Development Office (ASDO),
a non-profit organization designed to match aviation purchasing needs of
Kennedy and LaGuardia airports with local enterprises; the program is
funded by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey with their
airline partners and administered by the Aviation Development Council;
and
WHEREAS, Under her luminous leadership, the Queens ASDO has facili-
tated over 6,500 contracts, and consequently, she was featured on the
front page of CRAIN'S NY BUSINESS and referred to as the "Airport Match-
maker"; and
WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, Dolores Hofman has been
called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless civic and
charitable endeavors and has always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout Dolores Hofman's tenure in the aviation industry,
she has been involved with numerous public and civic-minded organiza-
tions, serving on the Board of Directors for the Air Cargo Association,
the Island Park Chamber of Commerce, the School Sisters of Notre Dame
and the Animal Protection Institute; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Dolores Hofman serves as an Advisor to the Board
of Directors of the JFK Chamber of Commerce and holds the title of Vice
President of the JFK Rotary; and
WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her profes-
sion she has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades includ-
ing being named both the 1997 Woman of the Year Award by the Bishop
Wright Air Industry and the 2003 Woman of the Year Award by Our Lady of
the Skies, making her the first recipient of both prestigious airport
awards; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable woman received the 2004 Boy
Scouts Leadership Award by the Queens' Council and in 2009, she was
recognized as one of the "Top Women in Business!" by the QUEENS COURIER
& BUSINESS TODAY; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dolores Hofman has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband of 48 years, Edward,
who feels privileged to be a part of her life and rejoices in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, With her zest for life, Dolores M. Hofman will no doubt
inspire other senior women to pursue their dreams; this exceptional
woman believes people do not have to stop living life when they reach a
certain age, and that it is important to touch lives and be the positive
change we want to see in our world, while paying it forward in giving
back in appreciation; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dolores M. Hofman upon the occasion of being crowned Ms.
New York Senior America on April 3, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dolores M. Hofman.
