LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 200th Anniversary of St. John's
Episcopal Church of Monticello, New York, on April 30, 2016
WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
200th Anniversary of St. John's Episcopal Church of Monticello, New
York, feted at a Bicentennial Anniversary Celebration Eucharist on
Saturday, April 30, 2016; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion was truly a joyful event; the St.
James' Church Choir from Goshen, New York, opened the worship service by
walking down the center aisle to the altar, followed by the Bishop of
New York, the Right Reverend Andrew M.L. Dietsche, who sang "The
Church's One Foundation"; and
WHEREAS, During Bishop Dietsche's stirring sermon, he spoke about the
long and distinctive history of St. John's Episcopal Church, reminding
its congregants about the faithful people who founded this remarkable
Church in the Spring of 1816, and how much has been accomplished
throughout its storied 200 year history; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Vicar, Reverend Diana S.
Scheide, St. John's Episcopal Church stands on the threshold of tomor-
row, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while retain-
ing that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of St. John's Episcopal Church of
Monticello, New York, observed on April 30, 2016, fully confident that
this commemoration reflects the belief in those values which enhance the
dignity and purpose of life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Diana S. Scheide, Vicar, St. John's Episcopal
Church.
