LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending William T. Gettman, Jr. upon the occa-
sion of his designation for special recognition after many years of
distinguished service to Saint Catherine's Center for Children on June
20, 2016
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend William T.
Gettman, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion after many years of distinguished service to Saint Catherine's
Center for Children to be celebrated at its Annual Golf Tournament on
Monday, June 20, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Saint Catherine's Center for Children in Albany, New York,
provides a comprehensive range of human services designed to offer hope,
foster growth, and improve the lives of the children and families; and
WHEREAS, In January of 2012, William T. Gettman, Jr. became Executive
Director of Saint Catherine's Center for Children; his tenure marked a
period of growth as he guided Saint Catherine's through an agency-wide
transformation in the planning, implementation, and delivery of
services; and
WHEREAS, Under William T. Gettman, Jr.'s luminous leadership, Saint
Catherine's witnessed an expansion in homeless services, a renewed
emphasis on residential and foster care services, implementation of new
community-based programs, and greater collaboration with funding sources
and peer organizations; and
WHEREAS, William T. Gettman, Jr. also placed a renewed emphasis on
engaging community volunteers in activities to benefit children; his
Makeovers for Kids program encouraged community groups to plan unique
and colorful bedroom renovations for children living in Saint
Catherine's residential programs, and his Mrs. Doubtfire initiative
recruited volunteers to mentor residential children; and
WHEREAS, Previously, William T. Gettman, Jr. served as the Executive
Deputy Commissioner/Chief Operating Officer for the NYS Office of Chil-
dren and Family Services (OCFS); he has also held leadership positions
for private and public sector organizations focused on providing child
welfare services and programs, including MAXIMUS, the New York State
Child Support Processing Center (formerly Lockheed Martin IMS), the New
York State Department of Social Services and UNISYS Corporation; and
WHEREAS, On July 18, 2016, William T. Gettman, Jr. will take over as
the new Chief Executive Officer of Northern Rivers Family of Services,
Albany, New York; he will oversee the construction and development of
care systems, provide strategic guidance and ensure that the organiza-
tion is poised now and in the future to provide both traditional and
innovative services throughout New York State; and
WHEREAS, William T. Gettman, Jr. rendered faithful, conscientious and
valuable service to Saint Catherine's Center for Children; he credits
its staff, board of directors, and its many community supporters and
volunteers for the agency's progress; and
WHEREAS, William T. Gettman, Jr. has served with loyalty, honor and
distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed
a unique grasp of human problems, which earned him the admiration,
esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend William T. Gettman, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition after many years of distinguished service to Saint
Catherine's Center for Children on June 20, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William T. Gettman, Jr.
