LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring John C. Googas, Jr. for his distin-
guished legislative service after 43 Sessions in the New York State
Senate

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 43 Sessions, John C. Googas, Jr. rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the New York State
Senate; his official last day will be on June 16, 2016; and
WHEREAS, As a Political Science student at Siena College, John C.
Googas, Jr. served as an Intern for Senator Frank Padavan from Queens
County; during this time, New York State was led by then Governor Nelson
Rockefeller, Senate Majority Leader Warren Anderson, and New York City
Mayor Abe Beame; and
WHEREAS, In 1974, John C. Googas, Jr. was hired by Senator Frank
Padavan to work with him on both New York State and New York City
concerns with his colleagues, and other state and city officials; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, John C. Googas, Jr.'s responsibilities
increased and he was promoted to the esteemed title of Chief of Staff to
Senator Frank Padavan; in this capacity, he worked with many elected
officials, administrative staff members, and union representatives
throughout New York State and New York City enhancing and implementing
policies and facilitating legislation enacted to bettering the quality
of life for all New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, After 38 years of dedicated service, John C. Googas, Jr.
retired from his position as Chief of Staff to his friend and mentor,
Senator Frank Padavan; and
WHEREAS, From January of 2011 through June of 2016, John C. Googas,
Jr. returned to work part-time for Senator Martin Golden, continuing to
advise on policy issues affecting New York State and New York City; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Policy Advisor, John C. Googas, Jr.
served with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, John C. Googas, Jr. was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems;
and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the New York State Senate, John C.
Googas, Jr. earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 36 years, Mary Pat
Stackman; his two daughters, Melissa (Matt) and Andrea; and his two
grandchildren, Ronan and Ava, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, After he retires, John C. Googas, Jr. plans on spending more
time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and traveling with
his wife; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John C. Googas, Jr. for his distinguished legislative service
after 43 Sessions with the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John C. Googas, Jr.
