LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Superintendent Joan Carbone upon the
occasion of her retirement after 40 years of distinguished service to
the field of education

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and the
success of the Pine Bush Central School District is due in large part to
the efforts of Superintendent Joan Carbone; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Superinten-
dent Joan Carbone upon the occasion of her retirement after 40 years of
distinguished service to the field of education; she will officially
retire from this esteemed position on Friday, August 19, 2016; and
WHEREAS, After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in May
of 1976, Joan Carbone began her illustrious career in education at
Sullivan BOCES as a Special Education Teacher; she received her Master's
degree in Special Education before joining the Pine Bush Central School
District in 1989; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast advocate for students with special needs, Joan
Carbone became the Assistant Director of Special Programs in 1998,
followed by the Director of Special Programs in 2000; her continuing
passion for excellence in education led her to the position of Assistant
Superintendent in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Joan Carbone became Superintendent of the Pine Bush School
District in 2013; during her tenure, she was instrumental in the
improvement of student programming, summer academics, a smooth Common
Core rollout, capital improvements and professional development grants;
and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, under the able leadership of Joan Carbone, the
Pine Bush Central School District has continued to grow with implementa-
tion of the Academy programs, S.T.E.A.M. initiative, No Place for Hate
Committee, PBIS and the unprecedented Community Summit which will
continue to bring Pine Bush Central School District into the 21st Centu-
ry and into the future; and
WHEREAS, Due to her unwavering dedication to educating the whole
child, Joan Carbone was recently recognized with the prestigious Educa-
tional Leadership Award by the Mid-Hudson School Study Council; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her loving husband, Michael,
and their wonderful two sons, Kevin (Carri) and Michael (Marcy), as well
as three beautiful grandchildren, Casey, Brooklynne and Andrew, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Joan Carbone has lead the Pine Bush Central School District
during inspiring times; she has repeatedly demonstrated her quiet
strength and fortitude during challenges and has been a light upon her
students and staff over the last three years; and
WHEREAS, Joan Carbone has continually demonstrated an impressive dedi-
cation, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for the
quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered in the
Pine Bush Central School District for the benefit of its faculty and
students, as well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, In completing her service as Superintendent, Joan Carbone
leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; she leaves behind a
legacy to the residents of the Pine Bush community and to future gener-
ations of its students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Superintendent Joan Carbone upon the occasion of her retirement
after 40 years of distinguished service to the field of education; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Superintendent Joan Carbone.
