LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Candella's
Farm & Greenhouses

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
important milestones in those businesses within the State of New York
which have contributed to the economic health and vitality of the commu-
nities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Candella's Farm & Greenhouses; and
WHEREAS, For the past Century, Candella's Farm & Greenhouses has
proudly offered quality products and outstanding service to its custom-
ers; and
WHEREAS, Candella's Farm & Greenhouses on River Road in Marcy, New
York, has been in the Candella family since 1916; 100 years ago, Italian
immigrant Frank Candella, and his wife, Rose, began farming land several
miles east of the farm's current location; they eventually settled on
200+ acres of prime earth on River Road, in Marcy, New York; and
WHEREAS, In the 1980s, Mike and Florence Candella took over the busi-
ness after Frank and Rose Candella began to retire and slow down; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Frank and Rose Candella continued to
remain involved while Mike and Florence Candella expanded greenhouse and
farm production by featuring U-Pick strawberries and an enhanced farm
store for its customers; and
WHEREAS, In the 1990s, Michael Candella, Jr. began to increase the
farming operation by selling wholesale produce to local grocery stores
and the New York State Prison Food Kitchen Program; and
WHEREAS, Michael Candella, Jr. also grew the U-Pick Berries operation
which is currently comprised of 20 acres of strawberries, raspberries
and blueberries; and
WHEREAS, Working cooperatively with Upstate Growers and Packers,
Candella's Farm & Greenhouses produces a full line of summer produce
including sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, beans, and squash;
and
WHEREAS, Each February, the greenhouse operation begins to grow plants
for retail sale and plants that will be grown in the field; Candella's
Farm & Greenhouses offers its loyal customers over 70 varieties of herbs
and perennials, hanging baskets, patio and combination pots, boxed annu-
als, and potted flowers; and
WHEREAS, As summer ends and winter approaches, Candella's Farm &
Greenhouses offers its clientele pumpkins and specialty pumpkins, mums
and fall decorations, and during the holidays, they sell Christmas
trees, wreaths and other decorations; and
WHEREAS, Today, Mike and Florence Candella continue to guide and visit
the business daily, but leave the majority of the details to their chil-
dren, Michael Candella, Jr. and Shawna Papale, who in turn are teaching
the next generation, Sara, Gabrielle, and Michael G. the successful
family-run enterprise; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Candella's Farm & Greenhouses has
become a trusted source for multiple generations of Oneida County fami-
lies who have come to appreciate this remarkable company's caring
concern and attention to detail; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous guidance of Mike and Florence Candella,
Michael Candella, Jr. and Shawna Papale, Candella's Farm & Greenhouses
remains committed to offering the finest service and products to the
Marcy area and beyond for many years to come; and

WHEREAS, The success of Candellas's Farm & Greenhouses over the years
is in direct correlation to the efforts of its management and staff,
whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impres-
sive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard
of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the company and the communi-
ty it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this third generation business and its contributions to the local
and State economies, fully confident it will continue to enjoy the spar-
kling successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Candella's Farm & Greenhouses; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mike and Florence Candella, Michael Candella, Jr. and Shawna
Papale, Owners, Candella's Farm & Greenhouses.
