LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lesley Rudin upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of a 2016 National Study Trip Award by the
American Association of Teachers of German

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lesley Rudin
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a 2016 National
Study Trip Award by the American Association of Teachers of German; and
WHEREAS, The Study Trip Award is a prestigious National award spon-
sored by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) which
provides students with an all-expenses-paid three-week trip to Germany;
and
WHEREAS, A student at Kenmore West High School, in Kenmore, New York,
Lesley Rudin won the trip as a result of her outstanding performance on
the 2016 National German Exam for High School Students; and
WHEREAS, Lesley Rudin placed in the top 90th percentile on the exam
and had to undergo a rigorous screening process which included German
language essays as well as an interview by a screening committee; and
WHEREAS, In 2016, more than 21,000 students participated in the
program, and Lesley Rudin is one of only 44 outstanding German language
students selected from across the United States to receive the AATG
National Study Trip Award; and
WHEREAS, In its 56th year, the study trip is a great reward for excel-
lence in learning German which includes round-trip tickets to Germany,
lodging with a host family, and excursions to places of cultural and
historic significance; and
WHEREAS, Lesley Rudin stands poised on the threshold of a broad and
challenging world, a testament to the love and nurturing care of her
family, friends and school; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to honor Lesley Rudin, a young
woman and able scholar, recognizing the value of her labors and the
promise of her future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lesley Rudin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
a 2016 National Study Trip Award by the American Association of Teachers
of German, to commend her for her outstanding academic achievement, and
to extend to her the best wishes of this Legislative Body for a future
of purposeful success and well-being, fully confident of her response to
a promising future and appreciative of the model she represents for all
aspiring young people of this great Empire State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lesley Rudin.
