LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Harvey Horn upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Orange County Chamber of
Commerce on March 12, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Harvey Horn upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, to be celebrated on Thursday,
March 12, 2015, at the West Hills Country Club, Middletown, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Orange County Chamber of Commerce is honoring Harvey Horn
for his distinguished military service and for his dedicated assistance
to local businesses through his participation in Orange County SCORE;
and
WHEREAS, A resident of Monroe, New York, Harvey Horn has helped
hundreds of local businessmen and women realize their dreams of owning
their own businesses by providing his counseling services to Orange
County SCORE; and
WHEREAS, Orange County SCORE is part of a national non-profit associ-
ation dedicated to entrepreneur education, and the formation, growth,
and success of the Nation's small businesses; and
WHEREAS, World War II Veteran and former Prisoner of War Harvey Horn
served his country as a member of the 772nd Bomber Squadron in the
United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS, On March 20, 1945, Harvey Horn was the Navigator of the B-17G
bomber which was hit by enemy fire over Yugoslavia; with only one engine
barely working, both Pilot John Lincoln and co-Pilot Lorin Millard flew
the plane over the Alps and safely ditched it into the Adriatic Sea; and
WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, the 10 surviving crew members became
German prisoners of war; for 36 days, Harvey Horn and the crew were held
captive, until they were able to overcome the German guards and turn
them over to the United States 3rd Army Blackhawk Division; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad, this
remarkable man demonstrated his love for his country and merits forever-
more, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Harvey Horn has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Harvey Horn has displayed throughout
his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Harvey Horn upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Orange County Chamber of Commerce on March 12, 2015;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Harvey Horn.
