LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Long Island Cares Inc., The Harry Chapin
Food Bank upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
Education Partner Award by Nassau BOCES

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Long
Island Cares Inc., The Harry Chapin Food Bank upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Education Partner Award by Nassau BOCES;
and
WHEREAS, This most auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the
Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation's Education Partner Awards Gala on
Wednesday, March 25, 2015; and
WHEREAS, True to its mission, changing lives and shaping the future,
Nassau BOCES partners with school districts and organizations in provid-
ing leadership and the highest quality educational and support services;
this exemplary organization is committed to ensuring a successful, chal-
lenging, caring and safe environment which enables students of all ages
and abilities to achieve their maximum potential; and
WHEREAS, The Education Partner Award recognizes those individuals or
organizations that have made a substantial impact on public education in
Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, The future success of our State and Nation is dependent upon
organizations such as Long Island Cares Inc. which dedicates its mission
to the education and nurturing of our most precious resource, our youth;
and
WHEREAS, Long Island Cares is one of the region's most comprehensive
hunger assistance organizations, serving thousands of individuals and
families in need; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Executive Director Paule
Pachter, this esteemed organization brings together all available
resources for the benefit of the hungry on Long Island, and provides for
the humanitarian needs of its community; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Long Island Cares provides food when and where
it's needed, sponsors programs that promote self-sufficiency and
educates the public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long
Island; and
WHEREAS, Founded as the first food bank on Long Island, New York, in
1980 by the late singer, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and social
activist Harry Chapin, Long Island Cares now provides nutritional food
and support services for a network of more than 580 community-based
member agencies; and
WHEREAS, With a vision for a hunger-free Long Island, this vital
organization distributes more than six million pounds of nutritious food
while providing such programs as Hunger Education, Job Training, Chil-
dren's Nutrition, Mobile Outreach, Pet Pantry, School Tools, Government
Affairs and Public Advocacy; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Long Island Cares
of Hauppauge, New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay recognition
to those organizations of commitment and high achievement whose purpose

and endeavors prove a dedication to the pursuit of excellence in the
education of the youth of this noble Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Long Island Cares Inc., The Harry Chapin Food Bank upon the occa-
sion of its designation as recipient of the Education Partner Award by
Nassau BOCES; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Long Island Cares Inc., The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
