LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Domestic Violence Program of The
Family Counseling Center upon the occasion of its designation for
special recognition for 33 years of distinguished service to the citi-
zens of Fulton County

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Domestic Violence Program of The Family Counseling Center upon the
occasion of its designation for special recognition for 33 years of
distinguished service to the citizens of Fulton County, to be celebrated
on Monday, April 20, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The private, non-profit organization, The Family Counseling
Center has served the interests of the people of the Empire State by
providing direct services to survivors of domestic violence and their
children for over 33 years; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, The Family Counseling Center established the Domes-
tic Violence Program, which is comprised of various agencies and organ-
izations within social services; today, the program employs six full-
time staff and five part-time trained employees; and
WHEREAS, Currently, The Family Counseling Center is the only agency in
Fulton County which is certified by the New York State Office of Chil-
dren and Family Service to provide direct services to survivors of
domestic violence and their children; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Domestic Violence Program is to reduce the
incidents of Domestic Violence through the provision of comprehensive
services to victims and by increasing public awareness of Domestic
Violence through public speaking and the media; and
WHEREAS, The Domestic Violence Program's goal is to educate, empower,
and assist survivors of domestic violence toward regaining control of
their lives, and move towards a positive future; and
WHEREAS, The Domestic Violence Program established a Domestic Violence
Hotline which allows victims direct access to help from the profes-
sionals at The Family Counseling Center; and
WHEREAS, The staff of The Domestic Violence Program also attempt to
prevent future violence through comprehensive prevention education,
presentation, and trainings in coordination with the Fulton County
Domestic Violence Task Force; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to all of the individuals, past and
present, who have diligently worked on behalf of this vital organiza-
tion; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when associ-
ations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Domestic Violence Program of The Family Counseling Center
upon the occasion of its designation for special recognition; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Domestic Violence Program of The Family Counseling
Center.
