LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the vital work of the William Hodson
Senior Center, the first Senior Center in the Nation

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
senior community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the vital work of the William Hodson Senior Center, the first Senior
Center in the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1943, the William Hodson Senior Center has created
a sense of belonging among the Bronx's senior citizens for over 70
years; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 250 members of the William Hodson Senior Center
enjoy special events which are designed to engage each senior to live
their fullest life by establishing nurturing relationships and a general
sense of belonging; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to the William Hodson Senior Center
for its impeccable service to the Senior Citizens of the Bronx; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the William Hodson Senior Center, the first Senior Center in the
Nation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the William Hodson Senior Center.
