MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
March 12-18, 2017, as Girl Scout Week in the State
of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official weeks that are set aside to increase awareness of vital
organizations which affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 12-18, 2017, as
Girl Scout Week in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National Girl Scout Week; and

WHEREAS, Each year, Girl Scout Week begins with Girl Scout Sunday
and ends with Girl Scout Sabbath, which give girls an opportunity to
attend their place of worship and be recognized as a Girl Scout; and

WHEREAS, The holiday also includes Girl Scouts' birthday, March
12th; on this day in 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded the very first
troop of 18 girls in Savannah, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to help increase
awareness of organizations which affect the lives of citizens of New
York State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 12-18, 2017, as
Girl Scout Week in the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
