Senate Resolution No. 1672

COMMENDING Deborah Arnet upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Coalition
for Economic Justice in Buffalo

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Deborah Arnet upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Coalition for Economic Justice in Buffalo to be
celebrated at its Awards Celebration on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at
Ironworkers Union Local 6 in West Seneca, New York; and

WHEREAS, At this auspicious occasion, Deborah Arnet will be honored
for her dedicated work as President of Communications Workers of
America, Local 1133, where she actively participated in contract
negotiations with Kenmore Mercy, reaching an agreement on a new contract
which covered 300 registered nurses within the hospital; and

WHEREAS, Leading a local group of strong, unified Communications
Workers of America who have actively fought against inadequate staffing
levels, deplorable working conditions and disrespectful management,
Deborah Arnet has accomplished significant improvements for the future
for unionized nurses, locally and nationally; and

WHEREAS, Under Deborah Arnet's leadership, the workers worked with
Catholic Health to prioritize patient and worker safety over executive
bonuses as well as protecting their rights as union workers; and

WHEREAS, Due to her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her
union, Deborah Arnet has enhanced the wages and work conditions of
numerous nurses at Kenmore Mercy as well as simplified the recruiting
and retaining of future nurses; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Deborah Arnet upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Coalition for Economic Justice in Buffalo; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Deborah Arnet.
