COMMENDING The Honorable Barry M. Donalty upon the
occasion of his retirement after 22 years of
distinguished service as County Court Judge of
Oneida County, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those singular individuals who devote their purposeful
lives and careers to preserving the rights and protecting the welfare of
the citizens of their community and the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Oneida County
community has been ably served and uniquely enriched through the
selfless dedication and benevolent concern of Judge Barry M. Donalty;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The
Honorable Barry M. Donalty upon the occasion of his retirement after 22
years of distinguished service as County Court Judge of Oneida County,
New York; he will officially step down on December 31, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Barry M. Donalty graduated from Manhattan College in 1968
with a Bachelor's Degree in Government; he went on to earn his Juris
Doctorate at the University of Buffalo School of Law in 1971, and was
admitted to practice law in New York State as well as in Federal Courts
the following year; and
WHEREAS, Throughout a life and career of purposeful endeavor, Judge
Barry M. Donalty has remained true to his commitment, serving family,
faith and community, as well as the law; his contributions and
accomplishments have brought great benefit and positive influence to
bear upon the course of jurisprudence and the quality of life for
others; and
WHEREAS, Barry M. Donalty worked as both an assistant district
attorney and an assistant attorney general before being elected Oneida
County District Attorney in 1981; he served in that position until he
was elected judge in January of 1994; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Barry M. Donalty has served as Supervising
Judge, Criminal Term, Fifth Judicial District since February of 2000;
and
WHEREAS, Firm in his commitment for more than two decades, Judge
Barry M. Donalty has remained dedicated to the betterment and progress
of the Oneida County community; and
WHEREAS, Judge Barry M. Donalty has served as Chairman of the Oneida
County Traffic Safety Board and as a member of the Jail Advisory
Committee; he also served the Alternative to Incarceration Committee,
Oneida County Law Enforcement Coalition, New York State District
Attorneys Association, and the New York State Law Enforcement Coalition;
and
WHEREAS, A member of Oneida County and New York State Bar
Associations, Judge Barry M. Donalty served two terms as Chairman of the
Oneida County Bar Association's Criminal Justice Committee, and as an
Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Mohawk Valley Community College
for nine years; and
WHEREAS, Respected by both attorneys and defendants alike, Judge
Barry M. Donalty always conducted an impartial and objective court; he
treated all defendants with compassion and dignity while at the same
time remaining fair in his rulings; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated member of many civic and charitable
organizations in Oneida County, Judge Barry M. Donalty served for two
years as Event Director for New York Special Olympics Spring Tournament;
and
WHEREAS, Judge Barry M. Donalty, in every capacity in which he
served, has left his permanent mark on the criminal justice community
and will forever be remembered as a determined, innovative and genuinely
concerned expert in his field; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Judge Barry M. Donalty upon the occasion of his retirement after
22 years of distinguished service as County Court Judge of Oneida
County, New York, and to extend its sincere gratitude for his
contribution to the people of New York State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Barry M. Donalty.
