COMMENDING Robert Longo upon the occasion of his
induction into the Fallsburg Central School District
Hall of Fame on June 25, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and
energies to the service of their community and profession, participating
in civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Robert Longo upon the occasion of his induction into the
Fallsburg Central School District Hall of Fame to be celebrated at its
2017 Graduation Ceremony on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the Fallsburg
Central High School in Fallsburg, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Fallsburg Central School District Hall of Fame was
created by the Board of Education as a way to honor and celebrate
individuals who are truly dedicated to their community, and serve as
living treasures to thousands of students and their families; and
WHEREAS, Robert Longo proudly served his country as a member of the
Army Air Corps during World War II; in 2015, he flew to Washington DC as
part of the Honor Flight Program, and recently, he traveled to Del Rio,
Texas, for a reunion of the few surviving airmen and their families; and
WHEREAS, For 35 years, Robert Longo provided a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, As a well-loved art teacher, Robert Longo taught his
students to celebrate the arts and give thanks to our American freedom,
the only atmosphere in which artists can truly create and in which art
is truly the expression of the soul; and
WHEREAS, An exceptionally talented artist, Robert Longo has been
honored with countless awards for his artwork and contributions to
founding and supporting Sullivan County artist societies and
exhibitions; and
WHEREAS, At the age of 96, Robert Longo continues to be an active
member of his community; throughout his 65 years of service to the
Fallsburg Lions Club and Lions Club International, he earned the highest
achievement in Lionism, the Melvin Jones Award; and
WHEREAS, Robert Longo's award winning commemorative pins have
adorned the jackets of proud Lions throughout the world; currently, he
is working on the pin for the International Convention in 2018; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his volunteer work with the Lions Club,
Robert Longo is a vital member of the Woodridge Kiwanis, where he was
the recipient of the Everyday Hero Award, and acknowledged for his
incredible mural of the O & W Railroad which is visible to all who pass
through the Village; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and
community service, a period of constructive involvement, Robert Longo
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Robert Longo has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of the Fallsburg Central School District, as well as on the
community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for
his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Robert Longo upon the occasion of his induction into the
Fallsburg Central School District Hall of Fame on June 25, 2017; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Robert Longo.
