COMMENDING Joan Malin upon the occasion of her
retirement after 17 years of distinguished service
as President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New
York City

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Joan Malin upon the occasion of her retirement after 17 years of
distinguished service as President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New
York City; she will officially retire from this esteemed position in
July of 2017; and

WHEREAS, Joan Malin began her illustrious career as President and
CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) in 2000; she brought
with her a deep respect and passion for the communities PPNYC serves,
which over the years has evolved into an organizational commitment to
integrate a social justice framework into all of its work; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Joan Malin, PPNYC has
helped countless individuals access the information and care they need
to live healthy lives and achieve their dreams; her passion for social
justice has led to tremendous growth and ingenuity in how and where
PPNYC is able to deliver its high-quality health care services and
sexuality education; and

WHEREAS, Throughout Joan Malin's tenure, PPNYC has grown from
serving 27,000 patients at three health centers, to serving 60,000
patients throughout five health centers, one in each borough; and

WHEREAS, Joan Malin has been instrumental in the success of Project
Street Beat, PPNYC's HIV prevention and linkage to care program, which
has grown and thrived, constantly adjusting to the changing landscape of
HIV prevention and care; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Education and Training Department has
grown to reach more than 25,000 New Yorkers through a wide array of
innovative programs serving young people, adults and organizations
throughout New York City; and

WHEREAS, For the past 17 years, Joan Malin rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to Planned Parenthood of New York
City, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues;
and

WHEREAS, The success of Planned Parenthood of New York City is in
direct correlation to the efforts of Joan Malin, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in

all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by Joan Malin over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication
to others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joan Malin upon the occasion of her retirement after 17 years of
distinguished service as President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New
York City; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joan Malin.
