CONGRATULATING Mida Kaelin upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Mida Kaelin upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday,
celebrated at a Birthday Party on Monday, May 29, 2017, at Woodland Pond
in New Paltz, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion began more than a week before the
actual celebration with her daughter and son-in-law visiting from Texas,
other family members arriving from the Boston, Massachusetts area and
Westchester, New York, to spend a festive afternoon together at Mida
Kaelin's favorite restaurant; and

WHEREAS, Mida Kaelin was born on May 29, 1917; as the oldest in her
family, she helped her mother with housework and caring for her many
younger siblings; and

WHEREAS, Known for her lush flower gardens on the family farm on
Guilford Schoolhouse Road, Mida Kaelin became a wild flower expert, a
birder and an artist; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Mida Kaelin enjoyed hosting dinner parties,
hungry tennis players and coffee hours; she served up delicious soups
and baked goods both at home to hungry hikers and on family camping
trips; and

WHEREAS, A member of numerous book clubs through the years, Mida
Kaelin continues to be an avid reader with special interests in
archeology, historical fiction, political opinion pieces and select
mysteries as well as literature; and

WHEREAS, Mida Kaelin, with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Mida Kaelin has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while

themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mida Kaelin upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mida Kaelin.
