MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
March 29, 2018, as Mom and Pop Business Owners Day
in the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
businesses and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is also the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize
and commend those who work to better their local community and work hard
to keep a local tradition alive; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 29, 2018, as Mom
and Pop Business Owners Day in the State of New York, in conjunction
with the observance of National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day; and
WHEREAS, Our economy could not run without small Mom and Pop
businesses; they create economic growth and provide almost 70% of all
new jobs in the country; every year on March 29 we acknowledge the more
than 27 million small businesses in this country by celebrating National
Mom and Pop Business Owners Day; and
WHEREAS, The holiday was established by Rick and Margie Segel in
honor of their parents and the successful hat shop they opened in 1939,
and grew into a 10,000 square foot, two million dollar clothing shop; it
is a special day to appreciate the long hours, hard work and dedication
it takes to run a small business; and
WHEREAS, Mom and Pop stores make shopping personal by delivering
superior and personal customer service; and
WHEREAS, Mom and Pop stores also support their community by
providing neighborhood jobs and recycling the money they earn back into
the local economy; and
WHEREAS, Finally, Mom and Pop stores offer their customers a unique
experience by bringing fresh ideas to the marketplace; and
WHEREAS, On March 29, 2018, individuals are encouraged to shop at
their local Mom and Pop stores; and
WHEREAS, The owners and employees of Mom and Pop stores diligently
work to make each and every customer feel special by greeting them with
a warm smile and offering a heartfelt welcome; they truly strive to make
their customer's shopping trip a wonderful experience; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 29, 2018, as Mom
and Pop Business Owners Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
