CONGRATULATING Anthony Evans upon the occasion of
his induction into the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame on November 4, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Anthony Evans upon the occasion of his induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; this momentous occasion was
celebrated on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Evans is a 1992 graduate of SUNY Orange, where he
distinguished himself by his many notable achievements as a member of
the basketball team; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Evans played basketball for SUNY Orange during the
1989-1990 and 1990-1991 seasons; he was the top scorer for both teams
and finished his exceptional career with 1,182 points; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from St. Aquinas College, Anthony Evans
began his esteemed coaching career as an Assistant Coach at both SUNY
Orange and SUNY New Paltz; he became the Head Coach at SUNY Ulster in
1999; in this capacity, he led the Senators to a record of 23-8 and was
named the 2000 Region XV Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Evans then assumed the title of Assistant Coach at
SUNY Delhi before relocating to Virginia where he served in the same
position at Norfolk State from 2007-2013; during this time, he amassed a
99-91 record, which included a remarkable run of 47 wins against just 22
losses during the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Evans also led the team to the school's first-ever
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships, an overall record of
26-10, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament; the Spartans became just the
fifth No. 15 seed to advance in the first round when they upset Missouri
88-86; and

WHEREAS, The next year, Anthony Evans coached the Spartans to a
21-12 record with a perfect 16-0 record in MEAC play before earning a
bid to the National Invitation Tournament; in 2013, he was named the
MEAC Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, After his great success at Norfolk State, Anthony Evans
became the Head Coach at Florida International University, where he
continues to work today; throughout his 10-year career, Coach Evans'
record stands at 150-170; and

WHEREAS, Athletes such as Anthony Evans provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Anthony Evans for
his extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his
skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Anthony Evans upon the occasion of his induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame on November 4, 2017; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anthony Evans.
