COMMENDING John Lorentz upon the occasion of his
retirement after 17 years of dedicated service to
the Farmingdale Central School District

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those
outstanding educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have
been instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend John Lorentz upon the occasion of his retirement after 17 years
of distinguished service to the Farmingdale Central School District; and

WHEREAS, An alumnus of Farmingdale schools, John Lorentz, began his
distinguished 17-year career with Farmingdale Central School District as
an Assistant Superintendent for Business; in 2006, he was promoted to
the esteemed title of Superintendent, the position from which he will
officially retire in June of 2018; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, John Lorentz has accomplished numerous
goals, including his goal of providing a myriad of paths to graduation
for students of all backgrounds; he was also instrumental in the
construction of the school's new sports complex and aquatic center; and

WHEREAS, John Lorentz maintained a healthy fiscal budget, and
created a rigorous recruitment and employment process, hiring only the
very best educators for the district; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his role at Farmingdale, John Lorentz served as
Assistant Superintendent at several other schools such as Connetquot,
Longwood and BOCES; and

WHEREAS, In his much deserved retirement; John Lorentz plans on
spending more time outdoors, whether it is snow skiing in the winter or
riding his bike in warmer weather; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, and their two sons,
all of whom have shown him love and support and rejoice in his many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, John Lorentz will be sorely missed by the students,
teachers and staff members; he treated each and every single person with
respect, while continuing to raise the bar on academics; and

WHEREAS, The driving force behind John Lorentz's commitment to
public education is his firm belief that all children have the potential
to do great things if given the opportunity; he prides himself on

creating an educational environment where students come first and
expectations are high; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend John Lorentz upon the occasion of his retirement after 17 years
of dedicated service to the Farmingdale Central School District, and to
wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John Lorentz.
