HONORING Temple Beth Shalom upon the occasion of
celebrating its 65th Anniversary on May 6, 2018
WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant milestones in the distinguished histories of its esteemed
places of worship; and
WHEREAS, Temple Beth Shalom will celebrate its 65th Anniversary
during a gala to be held at the Salem Country Club on May 6, 2018; and
WHEREAS, In 1953, a group of Jewish men and women gathered to
organize the Jewish Center of the Mahopacs; and
WHEREAS, Services were held in various locations until The Reverend
Joseph Ingraham offered space at the United Methodist Church; before
long, the congregation had formed a sisterhood, junior and senior youth
groups, and adult education classes; and
WHEREAS, Groundbreaking of their permanent home, at its present site
at Croton Falls Road and Route 6 in Mahopac, was held on August 19,
1957; and
WHEREAS, Dedication ceremonies were held throughout the Fourth of
July weekend in 1958 with the first services being celebrated that
summer; and
WHEREAS, Temple Beth Shalom's newsletter, the Temple Times, was
recognized with the Gold Medal at the USCJ National Conference in 2009;
and
WHEREAS, Temple Beth Shalom served as a dry ice and water
distribution center after Hurricane Sandy in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Temple Beth Shalom has a long and distinguished history of
sincere worship and fellowship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Temple Beth Shalom upon the occasion of celebrating its 65th
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rabbi Sarah Freidson of Temple Beth Shalom.
