COMMEMORATING the 40th Anniversary of Southwest
Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation on May
15, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations within the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial
Development Corporation to be celebrated throughout 2018; and

WHEREAS, Formed by a group of business owners and community leaders
to enhance the business climate in the waterfront neighborhoods of
Sunset Park, Red Hook and Gowanus, Southwest Brooklyn Industrial
Development Corporation (SBIDC) has helped hundreds of companies
throughout the last four decades; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1978, SBIDC has been a driving force
in the improvement of the Southwest Brooklyn economy, delivering a wide
range of business services to local firms and acting as an advocate for
business interests; and

WHEREAS, In addition, SBIDC has provided local residents with
employment services, and is the go-to organization for businesses in
Southwest Brooklyn who are looking to hire or need resources to grow;
and

WHEREAS, SBIDC diligently works for local improvements which better
the quality of life for both residents and businesses by hosting
workshops, assisting with storm preparedness planning and recovery, and
supporting various needs; during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in
2012, SBIDC strived to help businesses recover and prepared them for
future storm events; and

WHEREAS, The success of the SBIDC is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its employees, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the population it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which enhance the well-being and vitality of their
community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Southwest Brooklyn Industrial
Development Corporation in 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development
Corporation.
