CONGRATULATING Mark C. McMurray upon the occasion
of his retirement after more than 20 years of
distinguished service to St. Lawrence University in
Canton, New York
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Mark C. McMurray upon the occasion of his retirement after
more than 20 years of distinguished service to St. Lawrence University
in Canton, New York; and
WHEREAS, Mark C. McMurray, a resident of Canton, holds a bachelor's
degree in English literature from Hamilton College, and a master's in
library science from Columbia University; and
WHEREAS, He joined the libraries profession in 1993; and
WHEREAS, He served as curator of Special Collections and as
University Archivist for St. Lawrence University and also managed the
university's rare books and manuscript collections; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, the university's special collections and
archives grew, with a particular focus on the St. Lawrence Valley and
the Adirondack Park; and
WHEREAS, Mark C. McMurray has been instrumental in working with
students, faculty, and researchers in helping them use the university's
collections to further their scholarship; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished book designer, printer, and publisher of
limited edition texts at Caliban Press in Canton, New York, Mark C.
McMurray has shared his knowledge by teaching several classes on the
history of printing; and
WHEREAS, Mark C. McMurray is leaving behind a legacy of dedication,
enthusiasm and talent, as both a librarian and teacher, and he will be
greatly missed by the students, faculty and staff of St. Lawrence
University; and
WHEREAS, Mark C. McMurray has clearly had an enduring impact on his
fellow workers, as well as on the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive improvement to his
community and dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support their communities by
providing their skills and talents to helping others; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mark C. McMurray upon the occasion of his retirement after more
than 20 years of distinguished service to St. Lawrence University, and
to wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mark C. McMurray.
