HONORING Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Rensselaer County at its
Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran Ceremony on November 14,
2016

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peace-time, deserve a special salute; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its
Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran Ceremony on Monday, November 14, 2016; and

WHEREAS, In June of 1993, a committee was formed by the Rensselaer
County Veterans Bureau known as the Rensselaer County
Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran Committee to honor deceased Rensselaer County
veterans who have served their country in time of conflict; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous and dedicated service to his country,
Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. will be recognized at this year's November
Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran Ceremony; and

WHEREAS, Born in Troy, New York, on July 19, 1931, Raymond F.
Diamond, Sr. was the eldest of four children born to Wesley and
Genevieve Diamond; he graduated from Averill Park High School before
joining the United States Marine Corps on January 31, 1951; and

WHEREAS, Private Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. honorably served his
country during the Korean Conflict; he was awarded the Korean War
Service Medal, National Defense Medal, United Nations Service Medal and
Conspicuous Service Cross Medal for his valiant service; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Raymond F.
Diamond, Sr. married Margaret M. Campbell at Sacred Heart Church in
Troy, New York; the couple settled on Crystal Lake in Averill Park where
they raised seven children; and

WHEREAS, Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. began his illustrious career with
Walter Snyder Printing in 1958; he went on to work for Clarity
Publishing from 1965 to 1983, Whitehurst Press from 1983 to 1986,
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Print Shop from 1954 to 1955 and 1986
to 2004, and Hudson Valley Community College from 2004 to 2009; and

WHEREAS, Active within his community, Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. was a
communicant of St. Henry's Church; he was also a lifetime member of the

Sullivan Jones VFW Post, Sgt. Walter Adams American Legion Post and the
Stephentown Rod and Gun Club; and

WHEREAS, Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. was a loving husband to his wife of
60 years, Margaret, and a devoted father to his seven children, JoAnn,
Raymond Jr., Wesley, Jacqueline, Nancy, Margaret and Mary Ann, as well
as 13 grandchildren, James, Patrick, Justine, Jeremie, Matthew, Mark,
Michael, Jessica, Robert, Stephanie, Jeannette, Lucas and Samantha; and

WHEREAS, An avid Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates fan who enjoyed
spending time with his family and friends, Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. died
on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at the age of 78; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Raymond F. Diamond, Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its
Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran Ceremony on November 14, 2016; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Raymond F. Diamond, Sr.
