HONORING Linda Conway upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Office for the Aging on May 9, 2017

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Linda Conway
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the New
York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorkers Day
Celebration on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in the
Egg, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and

WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Born in Olean, New York, Linda Conway was raised in a
military family in Allegany, New York; after graduating from high
school, she earned her degree from Alfred State College; and

WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Linda Conway served as a secretary to the
director at BOCES Special Education School in Olean, and secretary to
the communications director for BOCES; she was then employed at
Dresser-Clark in Olean, where she met her first husband; and

WHEREAS, After Linda Conway and her husband were married, they moved
to Texas, and she held the position of secretary at Meyer Elementary
School for 20 years; after her husband passed away in 1991, she moved
back to Allegany in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, Linda Conway married her second
husband, Dale, and they moved to Painted Post, New York, where they
currently live with their two dogs and two kittens; and

WHEREAS, For many years, Linda Conway held the title of Emergency
Services Director for the American Red Cross Greater Steuben Chapter, a
position from which she officially retired; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Linda Conway is passionate about serving our country's
military, veterans and their family members; after her much deserved
retirement she chose to continue to work at the Red Cross in the
Services to the Armed Forces Program; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Linda Conway was instrumental in
rebuilding the relationship with the Bath VA Medical Center; through her
tireless efforts, the Medical Center has raised the profile of the Armed
Forces Program and has strengthened its mission to support active
members of the United States armed forces, veterans and their families;
and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Linda Conway has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Linda Conway has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, Linda Conway, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those she serves through her
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Linda Conway upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 9, 2017;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Linda Conway.
