COMMENDING James Johnson upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Alpha Phi
Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Zeta Lambda Chapter on
May 11, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend James Johnson upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Zeta Lambda
Chapter to be celebrated at its 10th Annual A Mother's Dream Scholarship
Gospel Luncheon on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Terrace on the Park in
Flushing, New York; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the neighborhood of Cambria Heights
in Queens, New York, James Johnson attended Campus Magnet High School
(Andrew Jackson), and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass
Communication from Benedict College; he then began his career as a
community organizer, focusing on uplifting the community by raising
awareness of their wants, needs, and concerns to advocate effective
solutions; and

WHEREAS, Through various positions such as Youth Care Worker and
Youth Specialist, James Johnson has made a difference in society by
building relationships with local businesses, unions and non-profit
organizations; and

WHEREAS, Currently, James Johnson serves as the Southeast Queens
Liaison for New York City Comptroller, Scott M. Stringer; in this
capacity, he works on policy, contracts, claims, pensions, program
execution, communications, and performance audits for city agencies; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to his community, James Johnson believes his
purpose is to create opportunities and open doors for the next
generation; as a bridge builder, he has hosted numerous successful
campaigns and events including the We Can Because We Know We Can Third
Annual Community Parade, Why Can't She Lead Too? Young Professional
Networking Parts 1 and 2, Stop Sagging Campaign, Three Voter
Registration New York, Black Men In Public Service, Is This America?,
Our Voice Counts, Clothing And Coat Drives With Omega Psi Phi Fraternity
Inc., What To Do When A Cop Stops You, Civic Engagement 101, Long Island
Railroad Press Conference In Southeast Queens, Millennials For New York
City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Black Excellence Fundraiser, It's
Not Just Physical, and the Trailblazer Program and Award Ceremony In
Honor Of African American History Month; and

WHEREAS, James Johnson is also an active member of the Cambria
Heights Civic Association, and serves as the Social Action Chair of the

Nu Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and Board Member of
Springfield Rifles and Riflettes Youth Sports Inc.; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to community
relations, and passion for social and economic change, James Johnson has
been featured in the Timesledger, and on NY1 and Patch; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend James Johnson upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Zeta Lambda
Chapter on May 11, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to James Johnson.
