COMMENDING Shaun D. Francois I upon the occasion
of being named a 2019 Hall of Fame Honoree by Making
the Impossible Possible, Inc. on May 26, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Shaun D. Francois I upon the occasion of being named a 2019 Hall
of Fame Honoree by Making the Impossible Possible, Inc., to be
celebrated at its 8th Annual Power of Partnerships, Scholarship and Hall
of Fame Gala on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at the BRIC Arts Media, Brooklyn,
New York; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 2001, Making the Impossible Possible, Inc.
(MIPO) is a non-profit membership organization, promoting the quality of
life of Haitian youth in the United States and abroad through education,
music, character building, medical care, apprenticeship training, family
support and scholarships; and

WHEREAS, After working for the New York City Department of Education
for more than 25 years, Shaun D. Francois I was elected President of
Local 372, the largest local in District Council 37 (D.C. 37) with a
membership of over 24,000; and

WHEREAS, As President, Shaun D. Francois I was instrumental in the
increase in the salaries of more than 2,300 School Crossing Guards, the
lowest paid employees within the union; furthermore, he made history by
creating the first ever Level II full time supervisory position for a
School Crossing Guard; and

WHEREAS, Shaun D. Francois I restored and reinstated the depleted
Severance Related Fund which provides health benefits to retirees and
their families; he also played a vital role in the acquisition of
additional funding for SAPIS Counselors, bringing him one step closer to
achieving his goal of having SAPIS Counselor in every single public
school in New York City; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Shaun D. Francois I serves as President of the American
Association of Classified School Employees (AACSE), an active member of
the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA), a Delegate on
the New York City Central Labor Council, and an active member of the
Coalition of Black Trade Unionist (CBTU); and

WHEREAS, In addition, he is an Officer At-Large of the International
CBTU Executive Council, a member of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and Chairperson of D.C. 37
Disability Advisory Committee; and


WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Shaun D. Francois I, that future generations may know and appreciate
his admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Shaun D. Francois I upon the occasion of being named a 2019 Hall
of Fame Honoree by Making the Impossible Possible, Inc. on May 26, 2019;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Shaun D. Francois I.
