MOURNING the death of Jayne H. Cooley, selfless
veteran, experienced nurse and devoted member of her
community
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Jayne H. Cooley, noting the
significance of her purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Jayne H. Cooley of Buffalo, New York, died on Friday,
October 19, 2018, at the age of 67; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Buffalo, Jayne Helen Cooley graduated
from Holy Angels Academy in 1969, and the Buffalo General Hospital
School of Nursing in 1972; she served as a Surgical Nurse for 11 years
and performed private medical services for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Jayne H. Cooley proudly served her country as a member of
the United States Army for more than three decades; she was deployed to
the Gulf War for Operation Desert Storm and earned the rank of Full Bird
Colonel, before her honorable discharge in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Since 2012, Jayne H. Cooley held the title of Regional
Hospital Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for all the hospitals in the
eight counties of Western New York; and
WHEREAS, Jayne H. Cooley also worked as a contractor, fulfilling her
duties through a grant from the United States Department of Health and
Human Services for supporting hospital emergency preparedness and
emergency response; in this capacity, she worked closely with state and
county health departments, regional and statewide hospital associations,
and hospitals across the region; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her meritorious life, Jayne H. Cooley pursued a
lifelong mission to help others; she was an exceptional soldier, a
compassionate caregiver and an experienced nurse who truly loved her
country and genuinely cared for mankind as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her parents, Jayne H. Cooley is survived by
her sister, Barbara; three brothers, Joseph E. (Rosemary), Paul J.
(Sandy) and Kevin P. (Leslie); 10 nieces and nephews, and 12
great-nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Jayne H. Cooley leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Jayne H. Cooley, selfless veteran, experienced nurse
and devoted member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Jayne H. Cooley.
