CONGRATULATING Frances Cottone upon the occasion
of her induction into the Century Club at the Chapin
Home for the Aging on May 31, 2019

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Frances Cottone upon the occasion of her induction into the Century Club
at the Chapin Home for the Aging to be celebrated at its 150th
Anniversary Event on Friday, May 31, 2019; and

WHEREAS, The Chapin Home for the Aging was founded by Mrs. Edwin
Chapin in Manhattan, New York, in 1869; since its inception, this 5-Star
CMS rated facility has strived to provide a true home for the aging men
and women who live there by providing serenity and security which has
always been envisioned as essential and appropriate to the latter part
of life; and

WHEREAS, Born in the Bronx, New York, in 1920, Frances Cottone was
married to Anthony Cottone for 55 years; she proudly served her country
as a member of the United States Marines and worked as a Telegram
operator while raising her five daughters, Jeaneatte, Mary, Antonia,
Joanne and Laura; and

WHEREAS, Frances Cottone has been a member of the Chapin Home
community since August of 2014; today, at the age of 99, this kind and
gracious woman attributes her strength to her Italian heritage and
staying busy as the Vice President of the Resident Council; she also
enjoys reading books from the Queens Mail-a-Book program in the local
library; and

WHEREAS, Frances Cottone, with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Frances Cottone has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Frances Cottone upon the occasion of her induction into the
Century Club at the Chapin Home for the Aging on May 31, 2019; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Frances Cottone.
