HONORING Reverend Michael A. Farano upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
by Catholic Charities Community Maternity Services
on October 18, 2018
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish
themselves and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and
preeminence of service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Reverend Michael A. Farano upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Catholic Charities Community Maternity Services
(CMS) at its Annual Celebration of Life on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at
Wolfert's Roost Country Club, Menands, New York; in addition, CMS will
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Farano Center for Children and
Father Farano's Jubilee; and
WHEREAS, Father Michael A. Farano was instrumental in opening the
Farano Center, the first licensed group home in New York State providing
care for young children afflicted with HIV/AIDS; and
WHEREAS, He and Sister Maureen Joyce (then Executive Director of
CMS) traveled to New York City hospitals and helped move the first
children to the Farano Center in Albany where they were welcomed and
cared for by a compassionate staff; and
WHEREAS, Father Michael A. Farano remained involved in the program
frequently visiting the staff and children at the Center and lending
whatever support was needed; and
WHEREAS, Over the past three decades, the Farano Center has
undergone numerous transformations and today it serves children with
mental health, behavioral or emotional needs who have been removed from
their homes due to abuse or neglect; and
WHEREAS, The one thing that has not changed is Father Farano's
commitment to the children who call the Farano Center "home"; his
generosity and ongoing friendship have helped improve the quality of
life for those in the Center's care; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given
enlightenment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and
has administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and
corporal needs of all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Reverend Michael A. Farano upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by Catholic Charities Community Maternity
Services; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Reverend Michael A. Farano.
