COMMEMORATING the 200th Anniversary of The
Palladium-Times of Oswego, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their readers;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of The Palladium-Times of Oswego, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Palladium-Times began as a weekly publication in 1819,
serving as the region's only newspaper until 1845, when the Commercial
Daily Advertiser was first established; and
WHEREAS, After decades of competing against one another and
supporting opposing political parties, the two newspapers merged on
April 14, 1925, to become one daily publication with an independent
political voice; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, Gatehouse Media, which owned The Palladium-Times,
sold the paper to the Sample News Group, a privately held operation
which specializes in small, community daily and weekly newspapers; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 200-year history, The
Palladium-Times has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of The Palladium-Times is in direct correlation
to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the newspaper and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, After two centuries, The Palladium-Times continues its
legacy of longevity, resilience, dedication and passion for its
community and truly merits the tribute of this Legislative Body and the
entire State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges The Palladium-Times' distinguished journalist history and
its outstanding record of growth and achievement, recognizes its
contributions to the local and State economies, and extends its highest
commendation to the newspaper and its employees, fully confident that,
in its future, it will enjoy the same success which has so characterized
its past; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of The Palladium-Times of Oswego, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Palladium-Times, Oswego, New York.
