MOURNING the death of Anthony J. Stento,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. Stento of Binghamton, New York, died on Monday,
December 2, 2019, at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. Stento, affectionately known to friends and
family as Tony, served as a monitor and mentor at Binghamton High
School; and
WHEREAS, After retiring from a career in construction, Anthony J.
Stento, who was a Binghamton North graduate and football star, went to
work at Binghamton High School because he loved to be around the kids;
and
WHEREAS, Many at the school fondly remember Anthony J. Stento for
his infectious smile and greeting and for passing out lifesaver mints
and fire ball candies; and
WHEREAS, Binghamton High School is paying tribute to Anthony J.
Stento by raising funds for the Danielle House, which is named after
Anthony J. Stento's daughter Danielle, whose tragic injury at the hands
of a drunk driver inspired the creation of the organization; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Anthony J. Stento was a member of
The Local 7, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, and the Thursday
Night Park Diner Dinner Club; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. Stento is survived by the love of his life for
54 years, Diane; his four daughters, Gina (Matt), Danielle, Nicole
(Phil), and Rosemary (Rob); six grandchildren, Alexis, Hanna, Nolan,
Madison, Robbie IV, and Eamon; two brothers, Jim and Rocco; one uncle,
Mike; brother-in-law, Robert; sister-in-law, Karen; as well as many
nieces, nephews and cousins; he is predeceased by his parents Joseph and
Mary Stento; and
WHEREAS, Armed with an humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Anthony J. Stento leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Anthony J. Stento, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Anthony J. Stento.
